Faringdon itself, whose name means “fern covered hill” is a market town set on the River Ock and River Thames. The town itself boasts the last remaining Folley Tower to be built in 1935 and is open to the public on the first and third Sunday each month. From the tower there are breath-taking views of the surroundings to be seen. After visiting the tower why not venture into the woodland and follow the sculpture trail with 24 blackbirds, a hidden door and much much more to find.

Faringdon Grange itself is also surrounded in history as a golf course, sitting within the pretty little village of Great Coxwell. A sunny afternoon stroll into the village will uncover some of the splendid architecture which can still be seen. Great Coxwell itself was also had a mention in the Domesday Book of 1086 and the village has had many spellings of its name over the centuries from Great Cokewell, Cokeswell, Cokeswylle and Cokyswell.
A walk around the park may uncover a lost golf ball or two in the rough, the trees or surrounding hedgerows from golfers gone by who have missed out on a birdie or two. The lake in the middle of the park which has now been cleaned and dredged also uncovered 1000 of golf balls from many bygone decades, from many amateurs slicing the ball into the water, never to be found.
